Volvo chooses Marco for the Middle East
There’s nothing too unusual about Marco following up website enquiries from around the world. It was an especially stimulating day, however, when our in-box demanded a response to Volvo Cars Overseas Corporation. Volvo were looking for four mobile showrooms & offices to represent their dealers in the Middle East, where conventional facilities are unavailable.
The challenge was to design a super-lightweight trailer that would meet all the internal and external requirements of their ‘Volvo Next Face’ programme, whilst conforming to the limitations of the towing vehicles.
The solution was found by specially preparing Marco X50s with weight-reduced chassis, light-weight body panels and internal fittings utilising ultra light-weight materials. For extra space, we incorporated a sliding POD for the VNF display panels, plus a veranda with balustrade and handrails. To cope with Middle Eastern conditions, each trailer featured solar reflecting glass and air conditioning conducted to two rooms. Twin, super-quiet generators were chassis mounted with extra large fuel tanks for extended operation.
Delivered in Autumn 2009, the four state-of-the-art trailers – each proudly displaying a large, back-lit Volvo Blue Shield – have been impressing audiences in true Volvo style across Dubai, Qatar and Kuwait.
