Trailer Questions & Answers
Q: What are the differences between Display,
     Show, Promotion & Exhibition trailers?
A: Little or none. The same bodies are used for each. The main differences are in the internal fitting-out, which is designed to suit your requirements.
Q: What size display trailers do you make? A: The size of an exhibition trailer is referred to by the length of the body. The overall length (including the drawbar) will be slightly longer. We manufacture up to the maximum 7 metres allowed for standard trailers. (See Trailer Terms for typical sizes).
Q: What do you mean by a "unit"? A: As not all our products are towable, we cannot call them all trailers; "unit" is a compromise. The term "trailer" is very broad. (See Trailer Terms for examples).
Q: What is "Field Marketing"? A: Field Marketing is selling from somewhere other than a shop etc - eg merchandising from a trailer.
Q: What do you mean by "X Series"? A: Trailer designs have altered over the years due to changing materials, manufacturing methods, construction regulations, fashions and of course our engineering experience of what works best. X Series trailers are based on the latest successful Marco technical design template.
Q: Can you design something "different" for us? A: Definitely! We specialise in doing precisely that. See Case Studies.
Q: Do you build self-towed trailers? A: Yes. We refer to them as "motorised units" as they are not in fact trailers. See Trailer Terms for more on the difference between trailed & motorised units.
Q: What do you mean by "motorised"? A: A motorised unit is - in effect - a chassis & body without a towing drawbar, pulled by a driving cab with an engine. It is not, however, as large as a typical semi-trailer or articulated unit. See Trailer Terms or examples of our Motorised units.
Q: What is included in a "shell-only" unit? A: This varies slightly from trailer to trailer. A "shell-only" unit is basically everything you need to get up & running. It does not mean "not yet useable" !
Q: What are "skirts"? A: Skirts are lengths of material hung on the bottom of open doors & bodywork to hide the wheels & chassis, giving a unit a finished look.
Q: What is meant by "trailed"? A: It means the same as "towed".
Q: What is the "running gear"? A: This is the assemblage of axles, wheels, etc on which a trailer runs. (See Trailer Terms).
Q: What is a "jockey-wheel"? A: A jockey-wheel is the small wheel at the front of the Drawbar. It is lowered to provide stability & manoeuvrability when the trailer is parked & raised during towing.
Q: What is a "drawbar"? A: A drawbar is the frame (usually in an A-shape) at the front of a trailer which attaches to the towing vehicle's towbar (Illustrations).
Q: What do you mean by "graphics"? A: Graphics is the same as Artwork. For promotional purposes it could refer to, say, your organisation's logo or message poster on a panel hung inside or to full body decoration in campaign livery.
Q: What do you mean by "Ex-works"? A: Ex-works refers to the net cost of a newly purchased trailer, excluding any additional options which may be chosen later.
Q: What do you mean by "Ex-works Weight"? A: The Ex-works Weight is the weight of a trailer as it leaves our premises. It can also be referred to as the Net or Unladen Weight. It is used to calculate the type of vehicle needed to tow the trailer without any promotional literature, goods, samples etc. The difference between the Net & Gross Weights indicates how much promotional literature, goods, samples etc may be loaded during towing.
Q: What do you mean by "Gross Weight"? A: The gross weight of a trailer (sometimes referred to as the Plated Weight) is the maximum weight of a fully laden trailer, and indicates the safe limit the axles, chassis & body are designed to carry when being towed.
In the context of a motorised unit the Gross Weight is the maximum additional load including the weight of a driver and any passengers when being driven.
The Gross Weight is a calculated safe limit required by law as well as commonsense, and is shown on a plate affixed to every chassis (hence Plated Weight). Naturally we err on the safe side, to allow for additional staff and visitors who may board a unit parked on site.
Q: Can you train us to tow? A: Yes. (See Aftersales Services).
Q: Can you service our trailer? A: Yes. (See Aftersales Services).
